There are lot of examples I think the worst offender is the Floating water Hyacinthia. It is a beautiful large flowered water plant that was popular in ornamental ponds that has gotten out and is not a problem in over 50 countries and on 5 continents. It is very fast growing (can double its population in 12 days) to the point that it clogs damns, limits boat traffic and effects water quality and fish populations by not letting any light through. One of the worst hit places is Africans Victoria lake. Linked below is a list of the top 100 most problematic invasive species world wide, many plants make the list, as do many other taxa of species.
