There are several different things you could use old railroad ties for. You could use them to make a trail or to separate a rock bed from the grass of your yard. You could also use them to on a hill to help prevent erosion from occurring. Another great use for them is to make planters for your plants, or flowers. These can be made by cutting the railroad ties into pieces and creating a square or rectangular shape with them. You could use a few pieces of railroad ties or several depending on how high you want it be. Then you place the soil and your plant on top of that with a border being the top layer. It is not recommended to burn railroad ties because fire could release hazardous toxic chemicals that are not good to breathe in.
