Continental Airlines has made an effort to replace most of its airplanes with more energy-efficient planes. By installing winglets on most of its Boeing 737s and 757s, Continental has saved fuel and reduced aircraft emissions by nearly 5 percent. Also, Continental has reduced emissions from the ground equipment at its hub in Houston by more than 75 percent since 2000. Easyjet, Lufthansa, and Virgin Airlines also are making efforts to reduce Nitrogen Oxide and Carbon Dioxide emissions, and airlines testing biofuels include Continental, Air New Zealand, Japan Airlines, Jet Blue, Lufthansa, and Virgin Atlantic.
