2. Energy efficiency: Google buys about 30% of its energy a year from low-carbon sources (such as windfarms). Running their servers requires a lot of energy use at Google which is why making this kind of effort has great impact. Google also buys carbon offsets.
3. Google also invests in clean energy companies (Atlantic Wind Collection, Clean Power Finance, etc.)
4. The virtual use of programs like gmail saves paper and mail delivery energy or the use of google reader saves magazines and newspapers.
