Some national green grocery stores are Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Central Market (HEB-but only in Texas). There are also a lot of local grocery stores in cities and towns, some are co-ops and exclusively sell only local foods and always organic foods.
Well, Whole Foods is the first national grocery chain to be certified organic, but the price and some of their business practices and treatment of employees scares some people off. A lot of the grocery stores with the greenest practices won’t be chains and will be local. Check out the Eat Well Guide to see what’s in your area. Most grocery stores, however, can be ‘greener’ and the decision is yours to eat more ethically and locally. Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs) is another way to ensure that you are making green decisions and doing your part.
