    Check out this website: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/

It rates almost any beauty product you could think of on a scale of 0-10 hazard level. It also has a review forum so you can read what other people who’ve tried the product have to say about it.  Anything with a rating of between 0 and 2 is a great green purchase!

Baking soda is great for brushing your teeth…and clean teeth is always an important thing.  :)

Making your own beauty products out of natural ingredients is another option. Some products can be labor-intensive, but others, like face masks or body scrubs, are easy to make. Consult a book on the subject or search online for recipes. Remember that homemade beauty products won’t last as long as commercial ones because they don’t have preservatives. Also, be sure to test for allergies.

If you are looking for makeup, big brand stores are starting to catch on to more natural and organic products. But, before reaching for those I recommend the brand Futureline. They have a multiple lines and produts range from skin care to make up and fragrances. The company goes beyond just having natural and organic ingredients-they also look at the social impacts and other environmental impacts like packaging.

Just as lunafish mentioned, baking soda can be used for much more than making science fair volcanoes or removing smells from the fridge. I stopped washing my hair in order to build up natural oils for a healthier, fuller look. Yet it takes a long time to build up the oils and my hair looked greasy and dirty, so I used a spray bottle with a mixture of about 8 parts water, 2 parts baking soda on my hair when I bathed. It left my hair looking clean and shiny!
