Rodale’s All-New Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening: The Indispensable Resource for Every Gardener, seems to be a good book on organic gardening. Based on twenty-five reviews on Amazon, it has received 4.5 stars. Not only will organic gardeners find this book useful, but all gardeners in general will find helpful tips.
“Starter Vegetable Gardens: 24 No-Fail Plans for Small Organic Gardens” by Barbara Pleasant is a staff pick over at Powell’s Books. Staff member Tove notes that the vast selection of gardening books can be really overwhelming, but this book breaks everything down into beginner-friendly chunks. It contains full-color photos and illustrations, a glossary, and step-by-step directions. The book promotes the idea that first-time gardeners start small at first and grow as they gain confidence. It’s available in paperback for $19.95 at Powell’s, plus shipping if you’re not fortunate enough to reside in Portland, Oregon.
