Drought tolerant succulent plants would grow nicely in southern California’s climate. Some of these are Aeonium, Aloe Vera , Crassula Ovata, Crassula Portulacea, Crassula Tetragona, Haworthia Correcta, Opuntia Cactus, and Portulacaria Afra.
Some native plants that do well in southern California’s dry, heavy clay, alkaline soil are Ceanothus, Desert Willow, Monkey Flower, Prickly Pear Cactus, Garden Herb Sage and California White Sage.
