Government subsidies are a major funding for green business, such as wind energy companies. Currently, the US government provides about $30-60 billion dollars for wind energy research & development and production. Green businesses receive money from investors, research and development institutions, etc…
Private grants also exist for green businesses. Many of them are very specific though, so you will have to research more exact sources. For instance the Community Conservative Enterprises is an organization that specializes in grants for green projects in South America and Mexico. In the United States the U.S. Department of Agriculture has 11.4 million dollars available for renewable energy projects and energy efficient improvements. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 also funds $500 million dollars worth of job creation in the green industry. So, depending on what kind of business you have in mind and where it is located, it is likely you will be able to find the right kind of money from a specialized program or organization.
