One category people tend to overlook is the sodium content of their food. A lot of pre-packaged foods such as soups, canned vegetables, and crackers have high sodium levels, which can be harmful for your heart when eaten in large quantities. A hotdog, for instance, usually has 900 mg of salt which makes up for half your daily allowance. Restaurant food also tends to be heavy on the salt, often without you even being aware of it. In short, avoid eating too much prepackaged food and leave the salt shaker alone when eating out.
