The U.N. has worked proactively to find solutions to climate change, help the population cope with climate change, protect the evironment, protect the ozone, provide safe drinking water, banning toxic substances and working to fix, prevent and reverse fish depletion.
The UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) has a mission statement that is:
“To provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.”
With that said are a whole list of things they do, like promote environmental governance, for decision-making, enhancing global and regional environmental cooperation, promote resource efficiency, to use only what is needed, inform about climate change and possibly find a solution for it.
They are also cooperating or funding the following agencies and companies:
ECG (Ecosystem Conservation Group)
IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change)
STAP (Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel)
GIWA (Global International Water Assessment)
UNSCEAR (United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation)
