Columnar Trees are sometimes called Fastigiate Trees.  Though the names are often interchangeable, Columnars are formed in nature, while Fastigiate are formed in nurseries.  The trees are characterized by a narrow shape, single trunk, and shorter, uniform branches.  Columnars / Fastigiates make nice landscaping plants or for areas with limited space.
