You may have heard of the EPA’s greenhouse gas regulation being passed a few months ago, but just this month, some members of Congress have introduced bills to suspend the regulation for a minimum of two years, which will also suspend our need for renewable energy. They argue that such a bill will harm Americans working in the fossil fuel industries.
Another episode of legislature against renewable energies came in the 1980s, when the Secretary of the Interior called for more drilling and more mining, as well as for all unoccupied land in the United States to be opened for mining and drilling in the year 2000.
A few years ago, the government echoed this sentiment by opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska for oil drilling, further setting back renewables.
