What are some examples of biodegradable wastes?

Typically, if a thing was created without the assistance of humans, then it will more quickly biodegrade into soil. Items such as plastics, which are created from petroleum and must be produced chemically by man, take thousands of years to degrade back into soil.

Any plant material or food material will typically degrade quickly, and man-made or forged materials will take longer. However, with many cities increasingly using incinerators to eliminate the need for landfill space, some of these natural materials that can degrade into soil are being burnt, along with the plastics that would take longer to deteriorate.
