Pollution and decrease in size are the two biggest concerns when it comes to wetlands. Many wetlands are built over with roads, homes and shopping centers and others are so close to human active areas that they end up getting some pollution runoff.
Wetlands are hot spots for biodiversity. Since they are often isolated, many species exist only in a few certain regions. Many endangered species are native to wetlands and as human expansion continues, we keep polluting or using up these lands. This not only reduces the amount of organisms, but many of these are essential to the health of the wetlands as a whole and if their numbers continue to dwindle, the wetlands could be facing major ecological upheaval.
