Naked Juice is now packaging its 10-oz., 15.2-oz., and 64-oz. juice and juice smoothies in bottles made from 100-percent post-consumer recycled plastic. The transition is expected to be complete by January 1, 2011. The reNEWabottle will reduce virgin plastic consumption by 7.4 million pounds per year.
Naked Juice initially unveiled the reNEWabottle in 2009 for its 32-oz. bottles. The reNEWabottle, also known as renewable polyethylene terephthalate (rPET), is plastic coded #1, which is easily recycled and clear.
The latest transition to the reNEWabottle is expected reduce Naked Juice’s overall carbon footprint and save more than 12,000 cubic meters of space in landfills. Using recycled bottles instead of virgin PET also will reduce the bottle’s greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent.
In addition to Naked Juice, a host of other food and beverage companies including Naya, Coca Cola, Danone, and Pepsico also have boosted the use of recycled plastics over the past year.
Naked Juice also announced its partnership and support forRecycleBank, America Recycles Day and Keep America Beautiful, which are organizations dedicated to improving the environment through recycling education.
Naked Juice will launch interactive content with RecycleBank, leveraging the company’s Learn & Earn platform to educate consumers about recycling virgin PET and the environmental benefits of the reNEWabottle.
