What are some eco-friendly highlights at the next Detroit Auto Show?

    The next Detroit Auto Show won’t be releasing any information about upcoming exhibits until the press preview January 9-10, 2012. Here are some eco-friendly highlights from the last Detroit Auto Show:

    The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) hosted the “Smarter Living in Michigan” event, wherein Michigan companies showed off how they are “building and creating eco-friendly communities and sustainable lifestyles.”

    Tesla Motors and Smart USA also displayed some of their newest and most popular fuel-efficient cars.

    Some other cool things from the last (2011) Detroit Auto Show include:

    • Porsche 918 RSR, whose front wheels are powered by an electric motor, which recharges from braking.  It is capable of driving over 150mph.
    • Mercedes Benz announced its SLS AMG E-Cell, which is an all-electric car capable of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds.
    • Inizio Electric supercar, which reaches 170mph.
    • Chevrolet Volt won the North American Car of the Year award.
