Some green design tips that wont break the bank include: buying home decor that is reused or made from recycled materials (check out ecofabulous.com), call your local U.S. Green Building Council to find your local eco-friendly stores, instead of buying a table-buy a table base kit and visit a local wood salvage yard for the rest, build a water wall for maximum energy efficiency, buy carpeting that is made with non-toxic dyes and made from recycled materials (try FLOR or Shaw Carpet), and lastly donate any unused materials to your local Habitat for Humanity (thereusepeople.org).
The best eco-friendly design tip I can offer to design with the main motive being to produce a produce a product or structure that is functional, interesting and made from a sustainable material. The biggest problem with non green design is to over design a product.
