Electric vehicles have limited battery life, and usually the battery stays powered for just over 100 miles. In a regular combustion engine vehicle it’s normal to get over 300 miles before needing to refuel. In a gas powered car it takes around 5 minutes to refill, while EVs can take 40 minutes to charge at home. There are also very few charging stations for electric cars especially in comparison to how many gas stations there are in the US. Engineers are working to create a longer lasting battery for EVs, but until then some consumers worry about running out of battery mid-trip. This fear has taken on the name “range anxiety.”
