What are some of the innovations developed from da Vinci’s “Codex on the Flight of Birds?”

Da Vinci developed a number of gliders and wing-apparatae from his observations on the flight of birds, but all of his inventions failed.  The codex, however, was in many respects far ahead of its time.  Da Vinci was the first to discover that air is a fluid, like water, and that the act of flight for birds is similar to the act of rowing.  He also made a number of astute observations about the center of gravity for birds.  In addition, he is credited for discovering the fact that birds migrate during the winter instead of turning to stone and falling to the bottom of lakes, as was believed at the time.
