Energy: increased energy efficiency, like high efficiency lights or lights that only light up when a person needs to use the light. The city can also use the energy of its waste, buildings can have facilities in the basement that turn garbage into energy that can power or heat the building.
Buildings: Buildings can be built to take advantage of sunlight by positioning the building and its windows to take in the most heat from the sun.
Transportation: Public and alternative transit can be designed into the city to encourage the use of public transport or make it really easy to ride a bike by creating alternative bike roads and widen automobile roads to include bike lanes.
