What are some concerns associated with radio frequency identification tags?

Like many technologies, the same reasons that make RFID convenient can make it dangerous. The point of the tags is that they can be read at a distance automatically without needing to pass it manually through a scanner. This caused privacy concerns as scanners placed in public places such as public transportation or major street locations could be used to track the movement of people (if RFID chips are in their credit or ID cards). This could be abused warrantlessly, especially with the recent history of privacy invasions excused by terrorist concerns, in a Big Brother-like manner. The other concern is the risk of hacking to steal personal information or money just by passing by people on a street with a hacked scanner.
