Speaking in raw numbers and not percentages of income donated to charity, these companies donated the most money to charities in 2009: Wal-Mart ($288 million), AT&T ($240 million), Bank of America ($209 million), Wells Fargo ($202 million) and Exxon Mobil ($187 million).
When charitable donations are adjusted for company profits, the list changes a little bit. The most generous companies as a percentage of profits (for 2008) are:
1. Merck & Company (24.4% of profits)
2. Pfizer (20.4%)
3. Abbott Laboratories (10.1%)
4. Bristol-Meyers Squibb (10.0%)
5. Eli Lilly & Company (9.0%)
