There are several kinds of trees that are common to West Bengal. The state tree is the Devil Tree, or Alstonia Scholaris, a huge bushy thing with long leaves arranged radially, with white flowers. Part of the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, is in southern West Bengal. The predominant comercial tree species is the sal tree, or Shorea Robusta, used for timber. Much of West bengla is temperate, so oaks and confiers are also common.
