Two very highly-rated, popular and sustainable seafood restaurants are Hook Restaurant and Restaurant Nora, both in Washington D.C. Many non-chain seafood restaurants are going this route though, as this is what the customers of today are demanding.
A great website for you to check which seafood restaurants are the most sustainable is Fish2Fork.com. It is a relatively new website so does not have every restaurant but is a great resource and keeps growing. Usually sushi restaurants are the biggest offenders but Bamboo Sushi in Portland, Oregon has been rated one of the most sustainable in the nation. Tataki in SF also scored very high. On a personal level, if you want to make sure you are eating sustainable seafood products, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program has a lot of good tips and resources.
