One advantage is the very constant nature of the weather from day to day and month to month; there are no pronounced differences between the seasons in equatorial regions. The weather is consistently hot and wet–“tropical”– so if one enjoys that climate it would be highly beneficial to live on the equator.
In addition the the tropical weather, Ecuador (which lies on the equator) is the cheapest place to retire to in the Americas. One estimate states that a couple could live on $10,000-$15,000 a year retired in the tropical equatorial climate.
The year round warm weather would be one benefit. But the equator is also an area that contains several countries/islands that are gaining popularity as tourist destinations. A future in the tourism industry can be developed in this area.
