There is an abundance of animals that live in Antarctica, although nearly all of them inhabit the surrounding oceans. In fact, the wingless midge, an insect that grows to about 12 millimeters (about 0.5 inches long), is the only true land animal. Most of the other animals are warm-blooded and large to adapt to the frigid, freezing climate. Some of these animals include the chinstrap penguin, weddell seals, the wandering albatross, the snow petrel, rockhopper penguins, orcas, krill, the antarctic shag, and emperor penguins.
