The list of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World is a play on the original Seven Wonders of the World, a list of ancient sites. The Modern list was created by the American Society of Civil Engineers, highlighting the most spectacular engineering and construction feats from the 1900’s. The Seven Wonders are: the Empire State Building, Itaipu Dam, the CN Tower, Panama Canal, the Channel Tunnel (the “Chunnel”), Netherlands North Sea Protection Works, and the Golden Gate Bridge. Many of the projects were the first of best of their time, and the Dam is still the world’s largest hydroelectric power plant.
