These days a lot of things can and does go into a lot of the things we make including shoes. Though the base ingredients usually include some combination of leather, rubber, wood, plastic, canvas, fabric, foams, and various metals.
Most of the shoe itself ranges by the manufacturer, but is typically artificial suede or nylon weave. Sometimes there are leather overlays though.
The sole is the most interesting part though. That is made of three different layers. The first, the insole, is man-made ethylene vinyl acetate. The midsole ranges from polyurethane around gel to a polyurethane foam. Outsoles are either carbon or blown rubber (harder verse softer, respectively).
