India has several motivating factors in support of a larger solar infrastructure. For one, the supply is abundant. India has an average of 250-300 sunny days in a year, and so with the materials in place, solar energy is a readily available renewable resource available to them. India has the second highest population in the world, all demanding energy over three quarters of which are unmet. As energy prices rise, Indians face a threat to their energy security without investing in solar power, which in the long run will save them over and over again the initial start-up costs.
