Population models are mathematical equations for establishing and studying trends in the growth and/or shrinkage of a given population in a particular area, ranging from humans to the smallest microbe. Generally, the equation accounts for four main ratios: births, deaths, immigration, and emigration. Births add to a given present population, while deaths subtract from it. Also, immigration accounts for individuals who travel from another population to add to the given present population, while emigration accounts for those who leave the present population to join a different one. Population models are also utilized in the business and political world to study people and their choices.
