A polliwog, or pollywog, is another term for a tadpole, which is the offspring of an amphibian.
A pollywog is a tadpole, or a baby frog or toad. They have gills and a tail, and are gradually growing lungs and legs.
A pollywog is basically the same thing as a tadpole. It’s a frog in its larval stage.
