What are pollutants that cause smog?

Smog is created by ground-level ozone (not atmospheric ozone, Earth’s sunscreen). Ozone forms on the ground as a result of nitrogen oxide from car exhaust and other emission sources. The nitrogen oxide reacts with organic compounds in the sunlight. This is why the sunniest cities are also the smoggiest.
