Artificial or plastic flowers are made out of polyester fabrics.
Fake flowers can be made of a variety of different materials, depending on the quality of craftmanship and how realistic you want them to look. Some popular materials are polyester, paper, latex, silk, and cotton. Wire and plastic are used for the stems and berries.
Some high quality artificial flowers are made from silk, grown as an agricultural product from silkworms that feed on mulberry trees. Cocoons are formed, which silk cultivators then collect after steaming the worms to death, and the silk from the cocoons is boiled, dyed, and woven into silk fabric. Artificial flowers can also be made from a cellulose-based rayon material as well as polyester, a petroleum product. The link below has an interesting comparison of artificial flowers vs. eco-certified bouquets in terms of environmental impact.
