Biologist will wrap tracking bands on a penguins flippers in order to track their movements.  Due to recent studies, scientists have found that these bands may restrict a penguin’s ability to swim.  Penguins naturally have an extremely low coefficient of drag, and this band hampers that ability.  These tags can be plastic, aluminum or other kinds of metal, and they are usually about an inch wide, a few inches long and wrap around the narrow base of a flipper.
