The first diving invention was designed as a rebreathing system by Doctor Freminet. It was built in 1771 and he called it Machine Hydrostatergatique. The diver wore a suit that was connected to a container by two hoses, and even after several test dives, no fatal accidents occurred. Exhaled air was “regenerated” because the air ran through water-cooled pipes from and to the helmet. Every dive was able to last several minutes.
