Several companies are getting into the car charging market and are offering or developing several options. In 2009, San Diego, CA began testing a mobile device from Juice Technologies that allows users to charge their cars in a designated service area. The usage fees will be charged to a users account (like a cell phone bill), not a standard electric bill. According to GE’s website (http://www.geindustrial.com/products/static/ecomagination-electric-vehicles/ge-wattstation.html), they have both products for commercial and residential use. A federal government sponsored plan to install networks of charging stations is underway in nine US cities. These stations will more closely resemble gas-filling infrastructure.
