The oldest living plant is estimated to be 43,600 years old based on carbon-14 dating.  It is King’s Holly, or Lomatia tasmanica, a unique, slow growing shrub that now covers an area of 1.2 meters.  This specimen is the only known of its species.

The oldest plants that are still around today are ferns.  A 40 million year old fossil of a cinnamon fern (Osmunda cinnamomea) was found, and shows no differences to the cinnamon ferns of today.  The cinnamon fern family has been around for 300 million years.
