What are micro grids?

Microgrids are miniature versions of centralized electrical systems.  They are tailored to a local level’s goals, such as emissions and cost reduction.  Microgrids are especially handy for power outages.  If a large grid gets knocked out, millions of people could be without electricity.  Microgrids allow for self-sufficiency and lessen the chance of a blackout.
