Rhinos are poached almost solely for their horns. The horn has traditionally been used for years in Chinese medecine as a cure for many things, including cancer, fevers and gout. The horn has been proven to have to medecinal qualities and is illegal to own. The horns are also carved and make beautiful sculptures. In Yemen, some Muslims own these horn carvings and pass them from generation to generation as a symbol of manhood. This sculpture is called a “jambiya”. The horn is sometimes made in to goblets, knife handles, buttons and other various items.
The rhino skin is sometimes sold also, although it is not nearly as popular as the horns.
