The most publicized issues of global poaching are that of the rhinocerus in Zimbabawa, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya. The rhino is killed only for its horn (sometimes for food in starved areas) which is sold for medicinal purposes in Southeast Asia. Tiger poaching in Russia and Southeast Asia has historically been a problem but regulatory action has been initiated by India and carried into other countries. Tiger poaching is still a problem in Nepal.
Certain countries in Africa have been reported to have serious problems regarding poaching including the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Central Africa is another area where poaching has had devastating effects on the area’s animals.
