Blue jets are lightning strikes in which the electrical discharge occurs above the cloud rather than below it.  They look like faint jet-streams of water and are an iridescent shade of blue.  Blue jet lightning is one of twenty unique types of lightning.  The others are staccato lightning, sheet lightning, intercloud lightning, ribbon lightning, bead lightning, anvil crawler lightning, bolt-from-the-blue lightning, red sprite lightning, blue sprite lightning, red jet ligthing, ball lightning, upward lightning, cloud to air lightning, and steplad[img_assist|nid=109494|title=Blue Jet|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=100|height=77]der lightning.
