    There seem to be several species that claim this title. The females of the South American species Dinoponera gigantea are all 3 to 4 cm. However, the queens of the Dorylus genus are the largest ants ever recorded, at over 5 cm. These are army ants that are mostly found in East Africa and South Asia.
