What are hormone disrupting chemicals?

Some chemicals can mimic or block our bodies hormones if the chemicals get into our system. Our bodies (and the bodies of all living things) carefully maintain the balance of hormones to ensure optimum function of all the bodies symptoms. If a foreign chemical enter our bodies and block our hormones from getting where they need to go then our systems don’t function optimally. The same is true is the chemical mimics the hormone and causes the system to get pushed in the opposite direction. It’s sometimes hard to tell if hormones are off balance because the symptoms can be subtle and if people have problems detecting the changes in themselves it is even more difficult to notice it in wildlife making these sorts of chemicals a rather insidious form of pollution.
