The heaviest land animal in North America is the American Buffalo or Bison.  It can weigh over a ton.  If you count marine animals, the Blue Whale is the heaviest animal in the world and can be found in oceans surrounding North America.  On average, the blue whale weighs around 170–190 short tons.
