In studies with rats they have found that long exposure causes nasal cancer. Formaldehyde is listed as a probable carcinogen (meaning that it probably causes cancer) in humans. It is thought to be associated with leukemia, but that is still in debate in the scientific community. In the short term many humans experience watery eyes, burning feeling in the eyes and throat, and difficulty breathing at high levels of exposure.
