    Ginseng is classified as an adaptogen, which means it assists the body in repair and helps to restore health. In ancient Chinese medicine, it was used for many different ailments and was even believed to cure senility and impotence. Scientific studies today have shown that it can be taken in exceedingly large doses and never produce side effects. It also acts like a stimulant for the mind (similar to coffee), lowers cholesterol, and reduces stress. It was demonstrated in one study that ginseng lowered blood sugar levels in people with diabetes 20% more than a placebo.
