Hawaiian beaches are generally cleaner than Californian beaches for a number of reasons. The amount of people that visit Hawaii’s beaches each year is much less than the annual beach-going population in California. This means less waste on the beach and in the waters, both from consumers and businesses. There are also quite a few organizations, local government included, that have active programs focusing on keeping Hawaii’s beaches as clean as possible. There are a couple linked below.
Hawaii is also full of coral reefs. These reefs help as a filter from the beach to the main ocean body and vise versa. They can help filter garbage that might come in from the main body of water, as well as oil and things of that nature from ships.
