The term ‘green energy standards’ can have several meanings. Most commonly, the term refers to state-implemented programs to reduce dependency on a particular form of energy (for instance, a state may have an energy standard that states 10% of energy must come from solar or wind sources by 2030). The term can also refer to the developed and built environment, in which some local goverments are beginning to implement programs that encourage or require ‘green’ energy standards in buildings.
