Green carts are mobile food vendors who offer fresh produce. There is a 1.5 million dollar grant in New York City to support these vendors. They are normally placed into “food deserts” in urban areas where few grocers refuse to go. There are 350 in NYC alone
Green carts essentially are mobile food carts that provide fresh produce and groceries to certain areas of New York City. In order to run a green cart, one must obtain a license from the city government, and about 1000 such licenses have been issued so far. Food safety is really important, so “a green cart can only sell raw fruits and vegetables such as whole carrots, bananas, apples and berries.”
